CROP HUNGER WALK SUNDAY, OCTOBER 3, 2010

Did you know nearly 16,000 children (yes, that's sixteen thousand) children die EVERY DAY from hunger-related causes?  Help fight hunger, locally and around the world, by participating in the White Lake Area CROP Hunger Walk.  There are two ways to participate:

1. Be a walker!  Ask friends and neighbors to sponsor you, and walk all or part of the route on Sunday, Oct. 3.  You can pick up a walker packet at church on Sunday, or call Virginia at 893-3183.
2. Be a donor!  Give generously when a friend or neighbor asks you to sponsor them, or make a check out to CROP Hunger Walk and put it in the offering or send it to the church office.

Either way, you will be helping to raise money to save lives and feed hungry people, here in White Lake and in other countries.
Thanks!

The Annual White Lake CROPWalk is held every First Sunday in October, starting at the White Lake Community Library.
Walkers collect pledges for a five- or ten-mile walk,
Proceeds go to Church World Services, with 25% returnng to The White Lake Food Pantry at Lebanon Lutheran

CROP stands for Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty and that’s exactly what it is. Over 2000 communities across the country participate to raise funds for local hunger-fighting agencies including our OWN FOOD PANTRY, and for international relief.

Last year’s event raised $3,855.00. Please join us again and help exceed this amount by pledging to walk—physically or spiritually– or making a donation.
This year's CROP Hunger Walks, with the theme "Enough for All," take on added significance as people in the United States and abroad face increasing joblessness and hunger in an ailing global economy. Some newly hungry people are eating meals from soup kitchens or food pantries for the first time in their lives.
CROP’s involvement includes such things as rebuilding homes after disasters like the tsunami in Indonesia, and the massive earthquake in Pakistan. Bringing water and sanitation to remote communities in Vietnam and working with Habitat to rebuild homes on the Gulf Coast are a few more examples of CROP’s many projects.
Who should take part in this year’s CROP Walk? Families, youth, and seniors – our goal is to have 10 % of our congregation join with the other area churches and organizations to make 2009 the most successful walk in the history of the White Lake Area.
CROP Hunger Walk is simple to participate in! Participants ask for pledges and walk a route that starts at the Library and then passes through both towns. The route is about 5 miles. If you can only walk a short distance that is no problem! Walk as far as you can. If you are unable to walk it is still no problem! Those who are unable to walk, but want to participate are our “spirit” walkers.

Tax Information
Michigan Public Acts 256 and 231 of 1994 reward financial contributions to Michigan food banks with a 50% State income tax credit (half your money back!). Limits: up to a $100 credit ( for a $200 gift ) for an individual, $200 (for a $400 gift) for a married couple filing jointly, and for businesses, 5% of the business's tax liability before claiming any other credits, or $5,000, whichever is less. In addition to the State credit, your gift to a Michigan food bank should also qualify for a normal Federal income tax charitable deduction.
